La Manga Villa statisticians have been hard at work and can now pass on some interesting facts about the Murcia region. The 2007 population census recorded 422,861 people living in the region. This is set to grow as more northern Europeans move to the area attracted by the sunny weather.
Infrastructure changes to the region include a new airport at Corvera – a site just 18 miles from the centre of Murcia. Work is now well underway. For tourists looking to avoid air travel there is also good news. There are plans to build a high-speed rail links between Murcia and Alicante and then on from Alicante to Madrid.

Apparently the owners have failed to renegotiate a debt renewal with their bankers. Should we all be worried – well yes, but it’s something that all businesses are facing in the current climate. The ‘good’ news is that they have a year to sort it out. So meanwhile it’s business as usual and we can all relax by the pool for the next 12 months.
La Manga Villa news team…A new golf course opens its doors. Situated just off the C-3319 San Javier to Murcia road, The United Golf Resorts (terrible name) course is taking bookings. News from La Manga villas…. a Roman theatre unearthed in Cartegena twenty years ago is now open to the public. Discovered under modern buildings, the archaeological site is now one of a number of Roman sites opened to the public in the last few years. Finds from the site can be found in the local museum.

The 2008 PGA Congress will be held between 23-29 November. The Congress is part of a golf promotion for the region of Murcia as a premier destination for golf holidays.ÂÂ
The PGA International Team Championship will take place at Roda Golf and Beach Resort, with additional EGTMA Media Masters events at other courses including La Manga Club.
