While there’s a wide choice of restaurants on-site and an even bigger choice beyond the La Manga Club resort, many villa renters choose to self cater.

If you arrive late at the resort and need to stock up on some quick supplies, pop into the petrol station – word of warning, it’s pretty expensive so keep the list short.

The biggest on-site supermarket is El Arbol which will have everything you need if you are staying for a couple of weeks. The booze section is particularly comprehensive.

The alternative on-site shop is found in the commercial centre of Bellaluz. The fresh vegetables and fruit are excellent. This shop also specialises in UK products such as curry sauces and jams.

The cheaper option is to go off-site. There are huge hypermarkets dotted around Cartagena, but for convenience you can’t beat Upper – a large supermarket just outside Cabo De Palos. Take the MU312 towards Cabo de Palos and after around 5 minutes you’ll see it on your right.

For the more adventurous, it’s worth popping down to Los Belones where there is a great butchers shop.
