Villa La Manga news announces the arrival on the 5th of January of 160 lady golfers with just one thing on their mind – getting their hands on a full playing card for the 2009 Ladies European Tour. Thirty cards are up for grab at the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School which takes place over ten days in La Manga Club.
The prestigious event, which being covered by Sky Sports, is expected to uncover major talent for the future. Amateur golfers staying at the resort will be able to join in the fun, playing alongside the professionals in a Pro-Am for a low-cost fee of just 70 Euros.
La Manga Villa statisticians have been hard at work and can now pass on some interesting facts about the Murcia region. The 2007 population census recorded 422,861 people living in the region. This is set to grow as more northern Europeans move to the area attracted by the sunny weather.
Infrastructure changes to the region include a new airport at Corvera – a site just 18 miles from the centre of Murcia. Work is now well underway. For tourists looking to avoid air travel there is also good news. There are plans to build a high-speed rail links between Murcia and Alicante and then on from Alicante to Madrid.
